Just Who Stands to Gain from $75 UB Lawsuit?

Along with its sister site in AbsolutePoker.com, the fears of cheating in online poker have best been exemplified by the scandal that happened at UltimateBet.com over a 3 year period. As many people may already know, over this three year period many UB poker players were cheated out of what is deemed to collectively be millions of dollars by criminals who manipulated the UB software. Their manipulation of the software allowed them to see other players’ hole cards and gave them a huge advantage over them.

Luckily, this act of cheating was eventually caught as players starting complaining about the suspicious play and action was taken to put a stop to it. But after much reporting by the poker community on the subject, things have kind of died down for a while. At least until now that is.

That’s because a company named Blast-Off Ltd., which is a part owner of UltimateBet.com, has recently brought a $75 million dollar lawsuit against the former software providers for UB in Excapsa Software Inc. Now it’s obvious that Blast-Off Ltd. is hoping to gain money from the lawsuit but the real question is are the players and former players of the site going to be benefiting in any way.

Not according to former UB player and loser of thousands of dollars at the site Daniel Cardoso who said, “I know I’m not going to get my money. I know there are thousands of people who aren’t going to get reimbursed.” The problem is that Cardoso may be right as most of the records of who all lost money may be gone for good. Plus there is the simple matter of just exactly is going to make Excapsa pay the players as the lawsuit is filed by Blast-Off Ltd.

Unfortunately for all those players who lost money at UltimateBet.com from 2005 to 2008, there may be no recovering their money. But at least somebody may finally be made to pay for this scandal.
