Australia labels Poker Sites as “Adult” Content
The Internet world is a wide open place where people can find virtually anything they want. If you want to buy a crazy hat or find out facts about Peru then you’re going to find this stuff on the Internet. In the same vein, if you want to find nude pictures and xxx movies then you can also easily find this on the World Wide Web too. For this very reason, there are a number of people and groups that fight to place restrictions on this content so that children can’t view it.
Australia is one nation that is making a conscious effort to keep children away from pornography and they’re doing it by censoring different adult content websites. As you might expect, many of the sites on this list involve sex and other things parents want to keep their children away from. However, one subject on the blacklist that you might not expect to immediately find on the list is poker.
In a leaked list of the websites Australia is going to limit access to, many of the biggest online poker and gambling sites in the world were noted. Places like Bodog, Ultimate Bet, 888.com, Full Tilt Poker, Hollywood Poker were all on the list and that’s only a few of the names! After looking at the list, the only major poker rooms that I didn’t were Titan Poker and PokerStars (I could’ve missed a couple).
I almost have to wonder if it’s worth the effort to go and put poker rooms on the list of websites Australia wants to limit. Sure these are places where only adults should be visiting since there’s no reason for a child to visit a gambling-related website since they can’t spend money there anyways. But the term “adult content” typically refers to pornography so why lump poker in with this. I’m very interested to see further developments in this story.
