Is EPT better than WPT
When most people think of the biggest poker organization in the world they think of the World Poker Tour. Sure most people will argue that it’s the World Series of Poker, but this is an event which really only sees major action happen from May to July. The WSOP Circuit events aren’t nearly as big as the WPT tournaments in terms of size and/or participation so its hard to call the WSOP the biggest organization.
But for those who think that the WPT is the king of poker in terms of overall participation and popularity they might want to think again. That’s because the European Poker Tour is fast catching up to the WPT and may have even surpassed it.
For evidence of this change just consider how the WPT was once a rapidly expanding business, but has now scaled back a great deal in their ventures. No longer do you see big events held outside of North America since the WPT’s financial difficulties have forced it to focus operation mainly within the US. Now most tournaments will happen in Las Vegas, Connecticut, and LA.
Meanwhile, the EPT has been expanding its operation ever since starting out in 2004 as a small 7 tournament operation. Now the EPT has broadened its horizons to include nearly all of Europe and things don’t look to slow down any time soon either.
On top of all this, the WPT has taken a major hit financially during the economic crisis that has pounded the United States hard while Europe has seemed to remain on a steady course. All of this has certainly helped the EPT to gain even more ground on what was once the world’s biggest poker operation by far.
