Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”

If you’ve been listening to any of the radio stations that play popular music lately then you’ve probably heard the Lady Gaga song Poker Face.  I can’t say that it’s one of my favorite songs in the world, but I can’t help but remembering it because it’s played to death.  And since it’s stuck in my mind, I’ve been wondering how much of it really has to do with poker so I decided to look at the lyrics online (I can’t ever really tell what most singers are saying anyways).

After reading through the song lyrics, I discovered that the basic premise of the song is that a woman doesn’t want to telegraph her full intentions to a man she’s seeing.  She is mentioned something about taking his bank before she pays him out and also says something about how she won’t kiss or hug him cause she’s bluffing (maybe she’s trying to see what all she can get out of him).

I will admit that the lyrics she sings do have a lot to do with poker since she mentions playing Texas Hold’em, folding and hitting, bluffing, and pairs.  And besides the annoying oh-oh-oh and constant hook about how “he can’t read my poker face” this track does a good job of implementing real poker terms into a somewhat meaningful song.

Now I still can’t say that I like it personally because the beat isn’t my favorite and the moral of the song has nothing to do with me, but Lady Gaga did do a pretty good job here.  And I would definitely say that this is becoming one of the more famous poker-related songs of all time.
