Absolute Poker helping Out with College Tuition
Absolute Poker doesn’t exactly have the best reputation within the online poker community. Even with the hole card scandal almost a year behind them, there are still many poker players that look down at Absolute Poker since many of their players were cheated out of money by a former Absolute worker. That is a big reason why Absolute is seeking to repair its reputation with a “Win Your College Tuition” tournament.
As the name implies, this competition allows people who are university students to compete for over $40,000 in total tuition money available. The winner will of course receive the largest share of tuition at $10,000 which isn’t exactly covering the whole thing so the promotion is a little misleading in my opinion. Nonetheless, that’s $10k someone won’t have to pay back in student loans when they graduate from college.
Plus I think that this is a very interesting promotion since online poker is more commonly known for enticing players to drop-out of school (not intentionally) rather than pay for them to stay in it. A promotion as original as this might be copied at other rooms too and could be a major boost to the reputation of online poker in general.
I’d also like to add that Absolute will be giving out $10,000 in prizes to actual schools themselves based on how the players representing them do. As of right now, Saint John’s University in Minnesota is in the lead for the $10k in additional prize money. This makes me interested to see what this prize money will be used by when it’s given to the school.
