People look to Poker to beat Recession
With the economic recession still in effect, many people have been looking for different ways to beat it. And many of these ways revolve around activities that will help them get rich quick. What’s interesting is that a poll done in the UK found that a lot of the people looking to beat the recession are turning to poker for extra income.
The poll determined that a total of 50% of people in recession affected areas are trying to get rich quicker and 10% of the population is using poker as the means. This is in contrast to the typical 1% in years past that tried to use poker as a method to make money fast.
What’s really interesting about these findings is that people have less money on the average to risk than they did when the economy was good so it’s certainly a wonder why poker has become the phenomenon that it has during the recession.
However this phenomenon becomes easier to understand once you take into account what experts have said for decades. The common thinking among many researchers is that, in desperate times, humans are willing to risk more to get rich despite having less.
Now I don’t necessarily think that learning to play poker to earn quick money is such a bad thing, but there’s no way that 10% of people in recession affected areas are going to be making a profit with poker. In fact, I think that this rush of new players into the poker world is only going to see more money lost since poker isn’t something that you can learn overnight. We’ll have to wait and see how things turn out with this though.
