Tom Dwan sets another Huge Record

By now anyone that even has a mild interest has heard of Tom Dwan.  In just a few short years Dwan has managed to build one of the bigger bankrolls out of any poker player and he’s one of the best players (if not the best) in the world hands down.  And what’s amazing about Dwan is that he just continues to make an even bigger name for himself.

Dwan was able to add to his legacy yesterday as he scooped the biggest poker pot ever when he appeared on the fifth season of High Stakes Poker.  Facing Barry Greenstein, Dwan was able to take down a $919,600 pot which easily smashed the old record of over $650,000 set on Full Tilt Poker.  Dwan was able to hit trips queens while Greenstein’s pocket aces were no good when he couldn’t get an ace on the river (ironically since that’s the title of his famous book).

Fortunately for Greenstein, losing so much money in a single pot didn’t affect him too badly since he was able to recover by taking a few big pots from other people.  2009 WSOP Main Event champion Peter Eastgate happened to be one of the players losing money since he was forced to fold after putting over $100,000 into the pot.  Still, winning this pot didn’t make up for the $919,600 one that he didn’t win.

With hands and action like this, I can’t wait to catch more episodes of High Stakes Poker on GSN.  I think it’s possible that the record could fall once again with players like Dwan in the mix.
