Banning an Online Poker Player for Life

Every time a good online poker player is caught multi-accounting, it usually makes all of the big poker news websites.  And for good reason too since these multi-accounters are giving themselves every chance to take advantage of other players.  All a multi-accounter has to do is take two or three of their accounts into the same room and they’ve got a huge advantage over the rest of the field.

Of course, if you get caught you can always use the excuse that people such as Brian Townshend use in that they’re so good they need aliases just so people don’t leave the room (whatever).  But coming back to reality, the famous Josh “JJ Prodigy” Fields has once again shown that the only thing he is a prodigy with is multi-accounting.

That’s because Fields, who was busted for this practice back in 2007 and 2008 on PokerStars and PartyPoker, was once again caught multi-accounting for a 3rd time at CakePoker.  It’s unclear how Fields will try to get in the good graces of the poker world this time since his last apology on an online forum read, “I would also love to say that I am not the poker god that I tend to be talked up to be on the forums … It is unfair how highly I am looked upon as a poker player as well. No one should ever get some of the praises I get … I assure you I will do everything in my power to amend my past and move on to a more ethical, aware, and self-understanding future.”

All this has me wondering if it would be possible to permanently ban the “poker god” from online poker altogether.  Sure I doubt this will happen, but after 3 offenses I think it is something that should really be looked into.  The way I’m thinking it could be done is by using the software to not accept his name, home address, IP address, etc.  I don’t know if this is possible, however, something needs to be done to prevent these people from being able to jump to different rooms and take advantage of other players.
