How Hard is it to Repeat at the WSOP?

Any time a person wins a bracelet at the WSOP it is a time to celebrate not only because of the money won, but also because of how great of an accomplishment this is.  Just think of how difficult it is to maneuver your way through hundreds of skilled opponents on the road to WSOP gold.  And as difficult as that sounds, think of accomplishing the same feat in the same event two years in a row.

It’s certainly not impossible to do this, but it’s nearly impossible and you’d have to be a master at the game you were playing to accomplish this feat.  With all that’s against a person trying to repeat in the same WSOP event two years in a row, I was amazed to see Thang Luu come out on top once again in the same WSOP tournament.

Luu, who was able to win Event #3’s Omaha Hi/Lo tournament last year, put himself in the World Series of Poker record books by pulling out a win this year as well.  Up until now, no player has ever been able to win the exact same WSOP event two years in a row.  Luu was able to outlast Ed Smith at the final table in order to claim his unprecedented victory.

Besides earning the rewards of a gold bracelet and over $263,000 in cash, Luu has also proved himself to be a true master of Omaha Hi/Lo.  I’ll definitely be looking to see how Luu does in any of the other Omaha events that he enters in this tournament too.  I’d also be interested to see if anybody can pull off the same feat as Luu in the upcoming years.
