WSOP Prop Bets

With the November Nine settled and people waiting for the final table to resume, the prop bets are already being put on the table by numerous betting websites.  The most popular prop bet will definitely be who wins the whole thing and this wager has already been listed by Bodog, Betfair, and Ladbrokes.  Bodog has chipleader Darvin Moon as the heavy favorite at 1.7-1 odds, Betfair has Moon at 3.3-1 odds, while Ladbrokes has Moon at 2.5-1 odds.

Eric Buchman and Steven Begleiter are also getting good odds as both players are ranked 2nd and 3rd in accordance to who will win the WSOP Main Event.  What’s really interesting to me is that Phil Ivey, who is only 7th in chips going into the final, is ranked fourth on all of the betting sites in terms of odds to win.  Bodog has him the highest at 4-1 odds of winning it all which just goes to show how much of a factor experience comes into play when setting up these odds.

Besides Ivey, the prop bets on all three sites for who will win the Main Event have pretty much ranked every player according to their chip count.  This has me wondering about the people who make this stuff up and how much time they actually put into the decisions.  And if you’re going to bump Phil Ivey up because of his pro status then why is Jeff Shulman still sitting at the position he is relative to chip count?  After all, Shulman has won a WSOP bracelet plus numerous other live tournament winnings.

These issues make me especially leery of actually making any prop bets on who will win the Main Event.  I think this wager is better left to the regular gamblers.
