New Poker After Dark Episodes

With every new poker show that is coming out and trying to capitalize on the popularity of the game by putting a different spin on things - a la Face the Ace - there are still the tried and true ones like Poker After Dark.  And those who are fans of poker shows that have actually experienced long-term success will be happy to know that Poker After Dark will be airing some brand new episodes starting in mid-September and running into October.

The first episode will feature a high stakes cash game featuring some of poker’s biggest stars like Phil Ivey, Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Eli Elezra, Howard Lederer, and Patrik Antonius.  The players need to buy into the game for $100,000 and the blinds will start at $200/$400.  When you consider how some of the people in Bobby’s Room at the Bellagio play for blinds of $8,000/$16,000 then these stakes might not seem like so much.

However, the producers of the show have stated that the blinds will go up throughout the show and could reach triple what they start at.  If you do the math, this means that the blinds will eventually hit $600/$1200 which does increase the stakes by quite a bit.

Still, we all know that these players could find bigger games if they wanted to.  But the point is that playing on Poker After Dark is more of an honor and advertisement for yourself than anything.  So even if people like Ivey and Dwan don’t get to play for their typical $4,000/$8,000 or $8,000/$16,000 blinds, they’re still getting to play for a sizeable amount of cash and get some extra face time on TV.  And I’m sure that the extra TV exposure will be plenty of a reward for these already rich players.
