How to play Rebuy Tournaments
There is a big debate about rebuy poker tournaments among the poker community. Some people hate them and were extremely glad when the WSOP decided to do away with rebuy tournaments this year. Others think they’re the greatest thing ever to happen to poker and will jump at the chance to play in any rebuy tourney they can. And it’s often this second group of people who misplay rebuy tournaments the most.
That’s because there are a lot of players who are far too aggressive in the earlier rounds of rebuy tournaments as they attempt to double their stack. They know that when they bust out, the option to buy right back into the tourney is available so it’s not such a big deal. However, it is a big deal when a player is spending massive amounts of cash to keep rebuying into a tournament. And if a person uses up too much cash rebuying back into a tournament, they’ll be forced to make a big cash just to break even.
On the opposite end of the spectrum is not rebuying at all once the chips are gone. The obvious problem with this is that you are putting yourself at a big disadvantage against the field since so many other people will be playing like maniacs in the beginning. The only reason players usually play in rebuys without rebuying back in is because they like the overlays. But this should by no means be a good reason to play a rebuy tourney if you have no intention of rebuying back in.
The best way to play rebuys is to plan on rebuying back in a few times during the tournament. If you bust out too many times then you don’t want to keep pouring money back into the prize pool. Just wait until the next rebuy tournament and spend your cash there.
