The Turn in Omaha
Those who are used to playing Texas Hold’em commonly think of the flop as the most crucial moment in the game. After all, this is where players find out if they actually have a drawing hand (or possibly even made hand), and also when others will get out of the way because the flop did nothing for them. But Omaha players know that the flop is only the beginning in their game since the turn is even more critical.
The first thing you’ve got to realize with the turn in Omaha is that you really need to be able to read the board and then examine your chances. Depending on the turn, you could be in the lead or have to deal with several other players that could hold better hands. This is a practice that must be developed, and is totally necessary for you to succeed in Omaha.
Another important thing you need to do on the turn in Omaha is figure out what your chances of having a made hand are as well as what opponents think of your cards. If the board shows a strong flush opportunity and you bet like you have it then opponents might be forced to respect this. On the other hand, if a rock is raising you like crazy then it’s pretty obvious that they have a made hand and you need to get out of the way.
This brings us to the last point in that you need to figure out where your opponent is at on the turn too. Based on the information you’ve gathered about them throughout the hand, you should be able to make an accurate assumption of what they have based on betting patterns. Once you can do this then you’ll have mastered the turn in Omaha!
