Using Resteals in No-Limit Hold’em

There are a lot of players who like to focus on stealing the blinds in No-Limit Hold’em.  Taking the blinds right out from other players’ noses not only makes you feel awesome about yourself, but it also helps you in the chip department too.  However, the only thing greater than stealing blinds from opponents is restealing blinds from somebody who is trying to steal in the first place.

The whole concept of trying to resteal comes from the act of out-bluffing a player who is trying to take the blinds.  Since most people who try to steal blinds are raising with next to nothing in the first place, they will usually fold when they’re countered with a re-raise.  A re-raise will indicate strength to blind stealing opponents and will possibly allow one to takes the raise and the blinds from an opponent.

Of course you need to have the perfect opportunities in line when attempting to resteal blinds from someone.  One of the best opportunities arises when a good player tries to steal from late position.  When a good player is attempting to steal, they will often give up their raise in order to avoid losing too many chips over a simple blind steal.  This is in contrast to bad players who often want to call a re-raise just to protect their initial raise.

You’ll also need to have a low-key table image too in order to pull off a resteal.  The reason being is that you don’t want to have a reputation for restealing blinds because other players will start to catch on when you’re trying to resteal every other time it happens.  If you can come out of nowhere to do it, then you’ll have a much better chance of success!
