Playing Poker with a Partner

Most people view poker as a game where one needs to fly solo.  However, there are some players who prefer to have a partner to play poker with.  And having a poker partner can definitely be a big advantage if you can make your partnership work.  But there are a few things which must be understood before you can be assured that your poker partnership will pay off.

The first thing you need to understand with poker partnerships is why they’re formed in the first place.  Many live players like to play with a partner because it gives them a buddy to hang out with on the road.  This is great from a social aspect since poker partners can be best friends on the road.  Another reason why people form poker partnerships is because they like to pull their resources together for bankroll reasons.  Having two bankrolls together can really help people overcome the ups and downs of poker.

Of course there are pluses and minuses to having a poker partner.  The biggest positive to having a poker partner is that it gives you somebody to motivate you during rough stretches.  Another plus is that a poker partner can help you survive tough financial stretches as well.

One problem with a poker partner is that money issues might arise since it’s tough to share a bankroll between two players.  One player might want to spend more of the bankroll while the other might want to keep putting the cash back on the felt to make more money.  Disagreements can arise when discussing how long to play each week as well which is just one more problem with having a poker partnership.  In the end, players just need to weight the pros and cons before deciding on if a poker partner is right for them.
